North Lambton Disability Class Co-Op Education

Posted by Connie - NLSS DD Class on January 8, 2012 at 2:49pm 0 Comments

Hello,

I am a member of a parent group in Forest, Ontario, supporting intellectually disabled children. A year ago the school canceled a very good co-op program that had a 100% employment success rate for the kids which is remarkable. The Board states that they simply do not have the funds. They do have funds, though, to offer co-op to the rest of the student body. We have a blog site at www.nlssddclass.blogspot.com, which sets out in…

great point about doing a job of an employee and possibly be taking away an employee's job.  I do wonder what information that volunteers might have access to as well.  Since volunteers have not been screened like an employee would be…

Legislation will only help if it is enforced.   So unless a parent has the money to go to court to fight a mighty school board (corporation) the legislation is limited.   I still think we need STRONG legislation though.   The Ministry…

To Be or Not To Be? Why Shakespeare?

I'm wondering if anyone else out there questions the value of forcing our high school students to study Shakespeare?I am the parent of two boys, currently grades 8 & 10.   I read and actually enjoyed the Shakespeare works that I studied in high school .... more than thirty years ago.   When I discussed this with my mother, she tells me she also studied the same Shakespeare works in her time ... more than sixty years ago. Here's where I'm going with this:   Why hasn't the curriculum…See More

Online Learning: What's Thwarting K-12 Online Learning in Ontario?

Ontario’s flagship program, e-Learning Ontario, proclaims  that “The sky is the limit!” in its marketing message , but the reality is markedly different in our public schools.  Online learning is very much in vogue, as are futuristic calls for public schools everywhere to embrace “21st Century Learning Skills.”  A small band of Information  Communication Technologies (ICT) innovators , inspired by futurists like Toronto author Don Tapscott, New Brunswick IT guru William Keirstead, and…See More
