Maintaining Quality in Education: Can it be Measured?
The Canadian Urban Institute is hosting a breakfast meeting featuring Annie Kidder, Executive Director of People for Education.
A rich legacy of the Metro Toronto government is the principle that Toronto residents should have access to quality education throughout the city, regardless of the income level of the postal code. But how are we to judge “quality”? Currently in Ontario we rely solely on scores in standardized tests administered in grades 3, 6, 9 and 10 to assess our schools' effectiveness.
What are the pros and cons of standardized testing? Do test scores present a complete picture? If low-ranking schools lack the resources to improve, what are parents to do?
Join us for a discussion about how to maintain and/or rediscover quality in public education. Cost $40, members of Urban Institute $32.
