How to send free listserv messages and more!

Elitemail.com is a company you can use to easily create a free listserv/e-newsletter. Using their step by step instructions, you sign-up for 1,000 free email newsletter messages (e.g. If you have 200 people to send to, you could send out your newsletter 5 times for free – 5 X 200 = 1,000). After that you pay $10 U.S. for another 1,000. To get started, click on their "Free Trial" button and follow the step by step instructions to sign-up. (A salesman may telephone you, but they are very low key and you don't need to buy anything).

How to change the defaut profile image in a NING network you have created:

You can control the default profile photo new members get when they join your social network without uploading their own profile photo.

To add a default profile photo to your social network, head to the Manage tab, look under "Your Ning Network" heading, and then click on the "Information" link (blue circle).

Upload your image to the "Set default profile photo" section. Choose an image that is a GIF, JPG or PNG and that is square. Your image will be resized to a 175x175-pixel square.

This time the book is a podcast. When you’re tired or busy with another task, well the podcast can be just the thing. Recently I heard Learning, Doing, Being: A New Science of Education. If you were intrigued by Alanna Mitchell’s recent Atkinson Series: Brainstorm about the developments of brain science and the impact on education, then this podcast may interest you.

From Speaking of Faith produced by American Public Media, host Krista Tippett talks with writers, artists, scientists, thinkers and theologians about ” belief, meaning, ethics and ideas” . Last week she interviewed neuroscientist (and dancer) Adele Diamond who now teaches at UBC .
She talks about Executive Functions. It turns out that play and especially dramatic play is key to the development of self –regulation.
“Her work is scientifically illustrating the educational power of things like play, sports, music, memorization and reflection” The more parts of an individual that get involved, the more the brain changes. The research is “turning modernity on its head”
Here is short slide show clip....

Mike, I have to say that you expressed many of my concerns and questions about the role and responsibilities of school council. I hear you and your frustration about the topics of discussion, but if council doesn't discuss the mundane, day to day,...
