Just saw your request, allow me to suggest you go to the Ministry of Education Website and down load the following document:

Wow, interesting question, Sheila. I'm in the same boat - on a high school council that doesn't fundraise. When I was on an elementary council, I don't remember ever having to vote on a funding decision - everything was done by consensus. Sometimes…
Do parent groups have different voting protocols when it comes to allocating fundraised money? It is my understanding that school councils really only can vote on what recommendation they are going to make to their principal or their board (for othe…
Shari's correctAli - you said that "the principal communicated that no vote would take place." That is not his decision to make that decision rests with your school council, the principal has no vote, but is there to facilitate as per the regulation…
Would it be school council funds that would be used? I believe if it was a school council funded project, the principal is a non-voting member of school council so his vote wouldn't have mattered.
You have probably found info in other discussions here about these kinds of situations....I hope there is something in your board's fundraising policy that can help too. Sometimes planning priorities at the beginning of the school year can avoid som…
To clarify.... SAC agenda was to vote on purchasing equipment, along with a short presentation on the equipment. The principal communicated that no vote would take place, also no support would be given, therefore no cheques would be signed. SAC woul…
Hi Ali,
I am the Parent Inclusion Coordinator at People for Education, and I am just getting caught up with our new online community. It is great to have you here, and I look forward to working with you. Of course, you have piqued my curiosity...Where is South Woodslee? I am so happy to see people from all across Ontario joining in, and I am trying to get an idea of where everyone is located. Thanks for joining us!
Jacqui

Hi Briony,

Thank you for sharing these photos and this project with us. It is wonderful to see those beautiful children learning together in a community school. Congratulations to the organizers of this initiative. To be able to offer this opportunity to 300 s…
I am the PIAC rep for Ward 10 of the TDSB.
PIAC is trying to offer more concentrated and targeted School council and parent engagement support this year and to that end we sent out a questionnaire asking schools what the state of things are at prese…
Beth: About the article in the Globe... unfortunately links to that newspaper only work for about 7 days, and then you must pay for the articles :( It's different from the Star which allows you to view them for free as long as you have the link addr…
Great article, Deborah (Playing the Game). I skimmed through and will read it again. Thanks! Looks like some good insight and food for thought from down under......!
Your link worked - yay Deb! It looks really good - I will read it this weekend :)
The next newsletter writing deadline is March 1st, which seems to work well with your research deadlines. All the best with your next steps in January!
