Would any SEAC members like to meet members from other jurisdictions to discuss issues in your district?
November 10
I'm a member of the Waterloo Region District School Board SEAC. Unfortunatley I'm not attending the P4E conference, so I can't meet you personally. I am however interested in sharing information, ideas and best practices.

Hooray Laurie, I agree. I have never been able to figure out why my daughter's EQAO Math results are better than her English results, when in real life (across many teachers), its the other way around. What is this measuring anyway?

I'm joining to give you moral support Beth! Although I'm not personally a SEAC member, I think it's a great idea for SEAC members to "meet-up" at the conference on Nov. 7th. I'm just thinking of how we could pass the word around... I'm not sure if o…

Excellent comments Kendra. A lot of money is being spent by the Ontario government on technology for kids who need it. And my understanding is that it often does not get used to its full poential--I am not sure why.

Actually, some parents do complain. But they don't have the same voice as big organization like the Howe Institute and Fraser reports who lead other parents astray through invalid utilization of the results of the EQAO. (The EQAO site even says that…

Hi Beth,
I saw your inquiry about how to post your email without everyone knowing it, and that Kendra has already kindly posted hers, but there is also another feature in the online community that you can use. You can send the person a message (as opposed to posting a note on their wall), and that is private - it is just like an email that comes through the online community, and only they can see it. You just go to the person's page, and under their profile photo/apple, you will see the "send message" option. They will get a notice that a message has been sent, and they can reply directly. Hope this helps!

This time the book is a podcast. When you’re tired or busy with another task, well the podcast can be just the thing. Recently I heard Learning, Doing, Being: A New Science of Education. If you were intrigued by Alanna Mitchell’s recent Atkinson Series: Brainstorm about the developments of brain science and the impact on education, then this podcast may interest you.

From Speaking of Faith produced by American Public Media, host Krista Tippett talks with writers, artists, scientists, thinkers and theologians about ” belief, meaning, ethics and ideas” . Last week she interviewed neuroscientist (and dancer) Adele Diamond who now teaches at UBC .
She talks about Executive Functions. It turns out that play and especially dramatic play is key to the development of self –regulation.
“Her work is scientifically illustrating the educational power of things like play, sports, music, memorization and reflection” The more parts of an individual that get involved, the more the brain changes. The research is “turning modernity on its head”
Here is a short slide show clip....

Marbat, I have a different take. Schools council's exist, ie. in business terms are their own entity. We have bylaws, voting structure etc. If we fundraise we direct the funds- the principal cannot "out vote us". To some of your points. School autho…
