Brilliant idea Anthony! What a great way for "People For Education" to reach out and engage the greater whole and its inherent diversity while including the students who represent the future, and giving everyone a voice in a considered and considera…

Critical judgment disappears altogether, for in no way can there ever be collective critical judgment....The individual can no longer judge for himself because he inescapably relates his thoughts to the entire complex of values and prejudices establ…

In order to truly measure something, there needs to be a concrete structure and a definitive description; therefore in order to answer the above question, we would need to define what is meant by success? and, what is considered "successful"?

Wow. My head is spinning. Sometimes the languaging on these threads goes beyond my ability to comprehend; it seems that many contributors are very well versed in the politic of school councils, school boards, ministry, gov't, etc. I certainly am not…

I concur. What a good idea to engage the media. In our area, Special Education planning committees (SEAC) are supposed to "engage" and consult via "invitation to respond" to "all parents receiving special ed services" but none of the special ed pare…

http://teacherleaders.typepad.com/the_tempered_radical/2009/10/building-parent-engagement-in-schools.html I'm with Cathy. Parental engagement means different things to different people; its as personal as, well , getting vaccinated or not. My idea…

I foresee many problems with ECE's and teachers sharing the responsibilities of a full day programme, although it is a fabulous idea from an ideological perspective. I do think enhanced opportunities for learning and stimulation can be good for many…

Maybe P4E could do a poll (parents, teachers, councils)? Maybe the media would provide some coverage regarding the poll? Maybe the public could be aroused that way to write to their MPP's? Have there been any publicized debates (sorry if this is red…

What about putting it to a vote? If EQAO costs as many millions as this website suggests (is there some way to determine exactly how much?) why not do what the democratic process would suggest and have the politicians/Ministry open up the decision t…

Doesn't it all just come back to accountability and transparency? If the information regarding team participation is not being clearly communicated to the entire school population (children as well as parents) and there is an "exclusive private club…

No advice to give but can share that in our experience much of the same happens at our school. ALL children are not treated equally nor given equal opportunity to participate. There is very little communication to the parent body regarding try outs,…

Everything said above is true, but I would like to clarify one point. Typically a school council will have members and executive. For 99% of the time any parent can be a member of school council giving them voting privileges with no need to be elect…
