Everyone is welcome: this group begins at our conference on Saturday. It's a support group for people who want to learn more about using technology to communicate. How to do stuff here, or to start an e-news listserv, or group & more!
Since these individuals are not "staff" at the school but considered staff of your School Board, they can participate on their child's school council but not in the capacity of chair or co/vice chair - according to the provincial legislation.

- I am a mom of 2 kids - 8 & 10 - from Ottawa. I am a member of, and past chair for our school council, a former executive member of the Ottawa Carleton Assembly of School Councils(OCASC), and currently the OCASC Webmaster.
I'm webmaster for my children's School and School Council. Check out a new website http://epttech.wordpress.com designed to help parents learn technology that they can use to reach their school communities.

This time the book is a podcast. When you’re tired or busy with another task, well the podcast can be just the thing. Recently I heard Learning, Doing, Being: A New Science of Education. If you were intrigued by Alanna Mitchell’s recent Atkinson Series: Brainstorm about the developments of brain science and the impact on education, then this podcast may interest you.
From Speaking of Faith produced by American Public Media, host Krista Tippett talks with writers, artists, scientists, thinkers and theologians about ” belief, meaning, ethics and ideas” . Last week she interviewed neuroscientist (and dancer) Adele Diamond who now teaches at UBC .
She talks about Executive Functions. It turns out that play and especially dramatic play is key to the development of self –regulation.
“Her work is scientifically illustrating the educational power of things like play, sports, music, memorization and reflection” The more parts of an individual that get involved, the more the brain changes. The research is “turning modernity on its head”

Marbat, I have a different take. Schools council's exist, ie. in business terms are their own entity. We have bylaws, voting structure etc. If we fundraise we direct the funds- the principal cannot "out vote us".
